I'm on a beach. Someone's holding my hand pulling me along the shoreline. Warm sand flowed against my feet. There was joy, definitely. Happiness bubbling from my mouth. It's so real I mix it up with my own life. I see them running, I feel adrenaline rushing through their veins, I see their wounds, I see the way they die. I see their internal conflicts.

A whole new world. Intertwined with the one I'm in.

I'm in my room, yet I'm also in the jungle. I'm on the bus, and I'm hunting rabbit. I'm in church and I'm watching my friend die and I'm shooting arrows and targets and striving to be noticed, to show people how much I'm worth. I'm eating and I'm feeling injustice and anger towards the cold-hearted murderers who places zero value on the lives of others.

And I feel their love, their friendship that can be the very thing that unites them, or breaks them. And my heart literally breaks for these fictional characters that won't ever exist outside the novel.

Looking back over the year, it didn't occur to me that so much has happened in 2011. It passed by it such a hurry that memories fuzz and overlap into each other. You find yourself asking and confirming if (such and such) really did happen this year. In 2011, I

entered a new school / faced the fear of making friends again / survived orientation / survived J1 / made and met a bunch of awesome new friends / met caring teachers / laughed / cried / suffered / rejoiced / survived

all the things life & school threw at me. Clear moments do stand out. When I ran downstairs in fear that everything was going to end / when I stared blankly at exam papers and exam marks / when you made me laugh despite my tears / when I laughed till I couldn't stop / when we sold stickys / when we stopped caring / when we couldn't stop pasting stickers

& through everything I was never alone.
